HERO Open Day

Motor Heritage Centre Syndicate Room 6, the Conference Centre, Gaydon

Sunday 1st March 2009

Following the success of its first Open Day held at Gaydon in February 2008, HERO will be holding a similar day on Sunday 1st March at the National Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon. The event will be open to everyone, whether a HERO member or not, and there will be no admission charge - well even provide tea and coffee!

Two of the questions we are most frequently asked are do you run training days for navigators and where can I learn more about regularity sections. HERO has always run a dedicated training day in the autumn for crews competing on L E J OG , but whilst any potential entrant is welcome to attend, the agenda for that day is always biased towards one specific event L E J OG . Novice and experienced competitors who attend the LE JOG training day tell us that they find it extremely useful. Even Tour entrants say that they leave the session having gained knowledge that is a help to them, particularly if they are considering entering a competitive event.

To try and offer help to crews new to HERO events or to those who want to learn more about navigational, regularity and endurance events, we are holding an informal open day with no fixed agenda at the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon on Sunday 1st March. Present will be senior organisers from HERO, experienced navigators and scrutineers.

On display will be Road Books, route instructions, map books, event regulations, Liege clocks & Clip Boards, route & time cards, vehicle eligibility details and nutritional information for dealing with long distance events.

A selection of navigational aids will also be on display and advice will be available on the types and suitability of the many trip-meters now available.

HERO personnel will be available to answer any questions and to help with navigation & map reading, car & crew preparation and basic time-keeping etc. Instruction on how to deal with regularities and Jogularities will be given in small groups or on a one to one basis depending on how many attend.

There is no need to book and admission will be free (enter via the conference centre rather than the museum entrance). Tea and coffee will be provided to all who attend and the museum self service restaurant will be open.

The Open Day will run from 9.30am until 4.00pm and you are welcome to call in at any time during the day.

You dont need to be contemplating competing on L E J OG to attend the Open Day. If you are a novice who is considering entering one of our events, or just want to learn more about regularities turn up for an hour or two. Whilst there will be event literature on display there will be no hard sell and no-one will try to persuade you to enter a HERO event. I you require further details please contact the HERO office.
