Rob Zwartendijk/Piet Knop/Arthur Brouwer Jaguar S Type 1968 9193EF NL/NL
Rob was one of the first to enter the Inca Trail – he put his name to a preliminary declaration of interest during HERO’s London – Cape Town event in 1998. Aged 61, and now retired after an international business life, he still devotes about 60% of his time to business pursuits through board membership. The other 40% of his time is pure FUN. His wife is happy enough with this arrangement, and with the idea of him going off on the Inca Trail – though two months, she says, is too long. As a remedy, Rob will have a satellite phone with him to help stay in touch. Rob considers that this crew of two experienced rally drivers and a novice will be good companions – good enough to spend weeks together in the same space without a fight. The car was bought as a £2,500 scrap car: “just ask what work is NOT being done,” says Rob. He has no idea where it will end, or what it will all cost.
