The Victory Classic Run
Greenwich to Portsmouth
Saturday 8th October 2005

The Victory Classic Run is a chance for you to get a taster for the London-Lisbon Classic Rally by taking part in a 130 mile four hour navigational exercise running ahead of the main field. You will follow the same route as the competitors on the main event, starting from the Royal Naval College at Greenwich at one minute intervals and finishing alongside HMS Victory at the Historic Royal Dockyard in Portsmouth.

Prior to the start you will have the opportunity to explore the Royal Naval College, built on the site of King Henry Vlll's palace, or visit the Cutty Sark located adjacent to the college. If time permits, you can take the short trip to the Royal Observatory and stand on the meridian line. Cars taking part in the Victory Run will leave from alongside the Watergate in Greenwich where Anne Boleyn embarked on her last journey to the Tower. You will drive through the same start arch as competitors on the main event.

Navigation will be by easy to follow Tulip Road Book, and there will be two Regularity Sections of approximately 20 & 15 miles using HERO's simple Jogularity system. Marshals will record your times using Liège timers on a time card intended solely as a souvenir. This is not a competition and you will not be following a time schedule. As such you do not require special insurance.

On arrival at HMS Victory you will join the assembly of London-Lisbon cars, and be able to explore the dockyard, or visit either HMS Victory or the Mary Rose. The Mary Rose museum of finds discovered during the excavation of the ship is well worth a visit.

The entry fee of £60 includes a rally plate and paperwork, a souvenir timecard, two souvenir finishers' awards, and admission for two to either HMS Victory or the Mary Rose & museum. Additional passengers can take part for an additional £15 per person to cover the cost of admission to HMS Victory or the Mary Rose, and for an additional finisher award. Only cars registered before 31st December 1979 are eligible to take part.
