I have had a few enquiries now thanks to the Hero newsletter which has allowed me to move on to stage 2 – getting some firm commitment from suppliers! Having started with 3 possibles we are down to 2 due to clash of dates. Of these one can only carry 2/3 cars per transporter so for 4+ it gets very expensive as more than one truck will be involved along with drivers costs and extra tolls. I have also had to abandon the north of England drop off idea.

This has left me with a international transport haulage group that operate within the EU called Evolution. Amongst their companies they have a fleet of car transporters based in Spain which offers a cheaper one way service rather than a transporter going out from the UK. They are prepared to send a truck to Lisbon which will then transport the cars via a British port to be delivered to Maldon, near Colchester, Essex to await collection by ourselves. The transporter will be of the open type and can carry up to 8/9 cars dependant on size. Total cost will be £3900 (covers insurance, fuel, tolls, ferry, and all other expenses) and this would be divided equally amongst those wishing to use the service. Therefore if there are 6 cars it equates to £649 per car, if 8 it is £487 per car.

To balance this cost you should consider 2 nights accommodation getting back to Bilbao, 37 hours ferry crossing, the M25 on Friday afternoon plus 700+ miles of fuel and wear and tear on a possibly already tired vehicle!

Action plan

• I need to book the transporter as soon as possible
  
• I need firm commitment from those parties that are interested NO LATER THAN AUGUST 12th.
  
• I may need a deposit but am still discussing payment terms with the supplier.
