Famous for still having gas lamps along several of its roads, Great Malvern in Worcestershire will be the home in 2008 for an event new to the calendar of the Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation, the Summer Classic Reliability Trial and Tour. The event will follow the popular and successful format of other HERO events with crews competing for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and for the recently introduced Silver Gilt medal for novices. Finishers’ medals will be issued to all those who complete both the Trial & Tour.
The Classic Tour is intended for those wanting a more leisurely drive whilst still experiencing the pleasures of classic motoring. Entrants on the Tour will be provided with a Road/Map Book with a suggested route, points of interest and the location of the main controls.
The entry fee will include four nights’ accommodation, welcome and prize-giving dinners, lunch on the three days of the event, detailed Jogularity style Roadbook for Trial competitors, rally-plates, event souvenirs, finishers’ and other awards. Open to cars made before 31st December 1981, vehicles entered in the Reliability Trial will be classed according to age, engine size and vehicle type. Later cars of interest or rarity may be accepted on the Tour.
Malvern is home to the world famous Morgan factory and entrants will have an opportunity to tour the factory on Wednesday 23rd July, the day set aside for documentation and scrutineering. The route will take crews on legs into Wales, through the Welsh Marches and along picturesque country roads in the Heart of England, and will include a driving test on the Hill Climb at Shelsley Walsh – the oldest motorsport venue in the world still in use.
