London - Lisbon Classic Rally and Touring Trial

5 to 14 October 2002
BULLETIN 1 - 1 August 2002

Dear Friend

Thank you for your entry on the London-Lisbon Classic Rally. This is the first Official Bulletin of the event. You will receive these Bulletins periodically before and during the rally. They contain important information (including any official Amendments to the Regulations) that you should thoroughly read and understand. It will be useful to keep them all in a safe place so that you can refer back to them as and when it is necessary.

1 Provisional Programme Keith Baud has now completed his full survey of the route, and is delighted with the result. See the enclosed day by day route description for more mouth watering details.

2 Accommodation Enclosed is a further copy of the Supplementary Accommodation Booking Form. If you do wish to take advantage of these special rates to stay an extra night before the start (in either London or San Sebastián) please complete this and return it to our Accommodation Officer, Harriet Batson, at InCompass as soon as possible.

To make things easier for you, Harriet is trying to make arrangements at the hotels on route so that on arrival you simply have to collect your room key from a special rally desk, and don’t need to bother with the time consuming check-in paperwork at the hotel reception. To do this, she needs to have a number of details from you such as passport numbers and a credit card number to which unpaid bills (such as telephone calls, mini-bar, etc) will be charged. Please complete the enclosed form and return it to Harriet as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT FOR SAN SEBASTIAN STARTERS Please note that accommodation for the night at the end of the practice leg in Bilbao (Sunday 6 October) is NOT included in the event accommodation package. If you would like Harriet to book you rooms in the Rally Headquarters Hotel, please complete the enclosed Supplementary Accommodation Booking Form.

3 Ferries I enclose a further copy of the Ferry Booking Information Sheet detailing the preferential rates that we have negotiated with P&O Portsmouth. If you wish to take advantage of these deals, and have not already done so, please contact P&O urgently in order to make your booking.

I would like to emphasise that if you are starting from Hampton Court, then you must book yourself and your car on the Portsmouth-Bilbao crossing of Saturday 5 October.

4 FIA Historic Regularity Car Pass All competitors on the Reliability Trial require a valid FIA Historic Regularity Car Pass or FIVA Identity Card. If you have neither of these for your car, please contact our Chief Scrutineer Peter Elliott on (+44/0) 1388 833778 to make arrangements to have a Car Pass issued.

Participants in the Touring Rally do NOT need any special Vehicle Identity Document, although you will need to produce your normal vehicle registration document and MoT certificate (or equivalent) during the pre-event formalities.

5 Training Day If you have never done a rally before or wish to brush up on your navigation and timing skills, you should come along to the HERO Training Day on Sunday 1 September. Based at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull near Birmingham (adjacent to Birmingham International Airport), the day will consist of a few classroom sessions in the morning, a good lunch, and the opportunity to drive a short practice route in the afternoon. Please see the enclosed sheet for further details and return the form to us to book your place.

6 Team Entries (Classic Reliability Trial only) Now that you have seen the Entry List, you may wish to form one or more teams as outlined in Article 5.5 of the Regulations. With the next Bulletin, we will distribute a list of the phone numbers of all of the nominated first drivers on the event to enable you to contact them in order to form a team. If you do not wish your contact information to be distributed in this way, please let us know and we will be happy to leave you off the list.

That’s all for now. I trust that you are looking forward to the Rally, and hope that your preparations are progressing well. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact the HERO office.

Best regards

Mark Appleton
Deputy Clerk of the Course
